Getting started guide for Matrix chat

This guide is specifically for the csfcloud.com matrix homeserver.

The csfcloud.com matrix homeserver is set up to use CSFCloud Single Sign-On, so to use it you need to have a CSFCloud account.

Recommended clients

Web

chat.csfcloud.com

This client is set up to use csfcloud.com as the default homeserver. When you open it, you will be prompted to Continue with CSFCloud.

Desktop

Element

Select Sign In, and edit the Homeserver to csfcloud.com. After this the username and password fields should disappear, and you will be prompted to Continue with CSFCloud.

Android - Element (legacy)

Element on Google Play or Element on F-Droid

It is recommended to use the Google Play version of Element. The F-Droid version does not use Google services for push notifications, so it is actively pulling the server for incoming notifications, and this can cause increased battery and network usage on your device.

Do not create an account, choose I already have an account, event if you never used Matrix before.

On the Sign On page, choose Other as homeserver. Enter mx.csfcloud.com as the homeserver address. Then you will be prompted to sign in with SSO (Single Sign-On).

Android - Element X

Element X on Google Play

Element X requires additional deployed services, so it is not yet supported:

  • Sliding Sync Service
  • Matrix Authentication Service
iOS - Element (legacy)

Element on App Store

Do not create an account, choose I already have an account, event if you never used Matrix before.

On the Sign In page, select the Use custom server options option, and enter csfcloud.com as homeserver URL. The username and password boxes should disappear, and you will be prompted to Contine with CSFCloud.

iOS - Element X

Element X on App Store

Element X requires additional deployed services, so it is not yet supported:
